Unleash your inner scientist: build a rocket and make it fly!

This year, Miss Dunleavy’s 3rd Class, participated in the Irish Aid sponsored project, ‘Leave No One Behind’. The project was about Irish Aid’s work in seven partner countries and the role of the UN Global Goals for sustainable Development. On the 4th April, the grandparents came into our school to the art corridor. We were talking to them and teaching them about the global goals for sustainable development. In my group there were four people – Emma, Ciara, Ava and me. I wrote some interesting facts about refugees; Ciara wrote a poem and Emma pretended she was a refugee called Milan and wrote a letter to Irish Aid. Ava wrote about the refugees in South Sudan. In honour of the hard work we do on the HPS team promoting wellbeing in our school, we have been awarded a well-earned official HPS flag. On Tuesday 18th June, we celebrated this achievement along with running the final kilometre of the 100K Challenge. This was organized by some of our lovely teachers, Mrs. O’Carroll, Ms. O’Malley, Ms. Morrogh and Ms. F. Ryan. We are overwhelmed by how much our school has changed simply by being aware of the importance of physical and mental wellbeing. We are thankful for everyone’s participation in surveys and in spreading the awareness of minding our health. Joe Wicks came to our school on 29th May. He led his H.I.T.T workout with us. It was really fun and we really enjoyed it. Lots of people turned up, even though it was raining. We think there were at least 900 in the yard. There was a great atmosphere! After the workout, some lucky pupils, a few lucky teachers and the Health Promoting School team got to meet him and have photos taken. Joe was very nice. He asked us a few questions about HPS. We were thrilled to be one of nine schools he chose to visit on his Irish tour. We were delighted that students and some staff from Marino School joined us for the event. When

The 5th & 6th Class girls took part in the Wicklow regional concert of the National Children’s Choir in Ravenswell National School on Thursday 2nd May. The girls were joined on stage by children from St. Cronan’s, Ravenswell and Curtlestown and gave a stunning performance. Their repertoire of 15 songs, performed with a live orchestra in 3 part harmony, included classical, traditional and modern pieces. Their Sound of Music medley proved particularly popular. Great credit is due to the girls for their incredibly hard work in preparation for the concert and a special mention must be made of all the teachers who worked with them to produce such beautiful music. Sincere thanks to all who contributed to make such a success of our joint Fittest Family / Hell & Back Fun Run fundraiser. It was a fantastic day, which was wonderfully supported by so many and enjoyed by all. So many people have commented on the lovely warm atmosphere and sense of community on the day and it was particularly special because the children of both schools could be such active participants in the event. In April 2019, Ms. Catterson’s 5th Class entered a creative writing competition that Bray Credit Union were hosting. We had to write about what banking in Bray Credit Union might look like in 2070. Some of our ideas included robots at the counters, holographs and flying objects! A few days later Ms Catterson got a call to say that our class won! We won first place and the prize was €500 for our school, we were all so excited. The following week on April 10th, we had to go to Bray Town Hall to collect our prize.
